Scared of the Dentist? Here's How We Help You Feel at Ease

Let’s face it - going to the dentist isn’t exactly most people’s idea of a fun day out. And for some, it’s not just a case of the jitters. It’s full-on anxiety. If your stomach drops at the thought of sitting in a dental chair, we get it. Honestly, you’re not alone - and you’re definitely not the only one who’s put off an appointment because of it.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to keep putting it off. With the right approach (and a kind, understanding team), you can absolutely feel more in control, more comfortable - and a lot less anxious about dental care.

So if you’re feeling nervous, here’s how we can help at our Norwich clinic.

First Off - Why Are So Many People Scared of the Dentist?

There’s no one-size-fits-all reason. Sometimes it’s because of a bad experience in the past. Sometimes it’s the fear of pain, or needles, or just not knowing what’s going to happen. Even the sound of the drill or the smell of the room can be enough to make you feel uneasy.

Some people feel embarrassed about the state of their teeth. Others just hate not being in control.

Whatever the reason - it’s completely valid. And we never, ever judge.

Here’s What You Can Do (and What We’ll Do to Help)

  • Start Small: You don’t have to come straight in for treatment. Book a consultation first - a relaxed, no-pressure chat. You can meet the team, get a feel for the place, ask questions, and talk through your worries. No drills. No poking around. Just a friendly face and a cuppa if you fancy one.
  • You’re in Control: We’ll explain everything before we do anything. If something doesn’t feel right, say so. We’ll stop. If you want a break - no problem. It’s your mouth and your treatment. You get to set the pace.
  • Conscious Sedation (If You Need It): If your anxiety’s on the more intense side, we offer something called conscious sedation. You’ll still be awake, but you’ll feel super calm and relaxed - and you probably won’t remember much about the treatment afterwards. A lot of nervous patients find it really helpful, and it’s totally safe. We’ve got a consultant anaesthetist and specially trained clinicians here to guide you through it.
  • Friendly Faces Who Get It: We’re not scary. Promise. Our team genuinely loves helping people feel better - both in terms of their teeth and their confidence. We’ve helped loads of patients who hadn’t been to the dentist in years. You’re not going to shock us. And we’ll never make you feel bad.
  • Let’s Talk About the ‘What Ifs’: Worried about pain? We’ll numb the area properly. Scared you’ll panic? We’ll talk you through calming techniques. Embarrassed about how your teeth look? We’ve seen it all before - and we’re just happy you’re here now.

On Step at a Time

No one’s saying you need to love coming to the dentist. But with the right support, you can stop dreading it. It’s not about being “brave” or “tough” - it’s about feeling safe, respected and listened to.

That’s what we do best.
